Losail – Setelah mengalami penundaan akibat cuaca, balapan MotoGP Qatar akhirnya sukses dihelat, Selasa (14/4/2009) dinihari WIB. Keluar jadi juara di seri perdana musim ini adalah Casey Stoner yang dibuntuti rival beratnya, Valentino Rossi.

Dalam balapan sejumlah 22 lap tersebut, Stoner yang membela Ducati tersebut langsung melaju sedari start untuk terus mempertahankan posisi pole-nya dari ancaman rider-rider lain.

Rossi yang Juara Dunia 2008 sempat kehilangan posisi duanya di awal start. Namun, pembalap Yamaha itu mampu terus menggeber motornya untuk kembali menempati posisi dua dan menguntit Stoner sepanjang balapan.

Welcome to MOTOGP 2009

Dari 18 pembalap permanen yang sudah ada di entry list MotoGP 2009, ada 17 orang yang pernah menjuarai sebuah balapan di tingkat Kejuaraan Dunia. Inilah data dan fakta MotoGP 2009 yang disarikan dari berbagai sumber.

Selain itu, dari 18 pembalap itu ada 11 orang yang menyandang titel juara dunia; baik di kelas 125 cc, 250 cc, MotoGP, Superbike atau Supersport. Di antara 17 pembalap yang pernah menjuarai balapan itu, mereka telah mengumpulkan 335 kemenangan.

Profil di atas menjanjikan harapan akan lahirnya balapan-balapan yang ketat setelah di dua tahun terakhir ini, balapan demi balapan berlangsung kurang kompetitif.

Karakteristik Sirkuit Losail Qatar

Sirkuit Losail adalah satu-satunya sirkuit tuan rumah pergelaran motoGP di kawasan timur tengah. Sirkuit ini dibangun dengan super kilat, kurang dari satu tahun.

Cepatnya pembangunan sirkuit ini didukung oleh penggunaan 1.000 orang pekerja pembangunan. Dana yang dibutuhkan pun sangat besar, yakni 58 juta dolar AS atau sekitar Rp 540 miliar.

Pada 2 Oktober 2004, sirkuit Losail untuk kali pertama menggelar balapan MotoGP. Lokasi balap ini terletak ditengah gurun pasir yang menyebabkan permasalahan kondisi cuacanya yang menjadi sebab utama karena suhu bisa mencapai 50 derajat.

Permasalahan lainnya karena terletak ditengah gurun adalah jika angin bertiup maka pasir akan menutupi lintasan balap yang menyebabkan lintasan menjadi licin dan sangat berbahaya, tapi permasalahan ini bisa diatasi oleh pengelola dengan menanam rumput disekitar lintasan dan hal ini bisa mengatasi permasalahan tersebut
